'Blast'
at the
2012
Detroit
Gold Cup
Hydroplane
Race

Returning
to
Detroit
this
weekend
is the
2012
Detroit
APBA
Gold Cup
races
presented
by the
Detroit
Yacht
Club.
Friday
July
13th -
15th,
2012 The
Detroit
River
Gold
Coast
will
continue
its 86th
year
tradition
in the
city
with 12
Unlimited
Hydroplanes
traveling
over 200
miles
per hour
on
water,
along
with
Light
Hydroplanes
and
Vintage
Hydroplanes.
The race
will run
along
the
Detroit
River at
the
Roostertail
water
front
entrance
and
Belle
Isle. A
special
demonstration
from a
US Navy
FA-18
including
two
acrobat
planes
and a
fly over
is
scheduled
for
Sunday.
Event
Director,
Mark
Weber
says
that
ticket
sales
are up
17 to 18
percent
from
last
year and
are
still
available
for this
weekend's
race on
www.Gold-Cup.com
The
Detroit
APBA
Gold Cup
race
organized
a group
to
attend
and
watch
the
race,
the "New
Kids on
the
Course"
program
will
gather
youth
from
Focus:
HOPE,
the
salvation
Army of
Metro
Detroit
and
Grace
Christian
Church
of
Sterling
Heights
ages
5-14
years to
attend
Friday,
July
13th
from
9am-12pm.

Bing
gave his
verbal
stamp of
approval,
"It
shows
off our
city,
and
allows
people
to see a
different
side of
Detroit."
Warmed
up for
the
race,
J.W.
Meyers,
driver
of a
Unlimited
Hydroplane
said,
"Were
just
here to
compete
for the
Gold Cup
and to
put
Peters &
May on
the Gold
Cup."
