Rudy Hobbs earns endorsement of TellUsDetroit.Com for Michigan’s 14th Congressional District

Tell Us Detroit Elections Editorial Committee

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - Rudy Hobbs has spent his career as a loyal, capable, and effective public servant. His youth and energy are exemplary of what the 14th District needs during such an important time.

Raised in Detroit, Rudy lived the struggles facing everyday working families. Rudy and his wife paid their way through college making minimum wage. Afterwards, he became a first grade teacher in Detroit Public Schools until former Governor Engler took over DPS, ultimately sparking Hobbs’ interest into politics to be a voice for the voiceless.

Rudy served on the Southfield School Board and worked as Congressman Sander Levin’s Michigan Director, and as an adviser to Governor Granholm. After being elected to the Legislature, Hobbs was chosen for leadership by his colleagues in his very first term. He received several ‘Legislator of the Year’ awards and rose from there to become Michigan’s highest-ranking African-American elected official, and the second highest ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives.

In the 14th Congressional District, Hobbs is supported by a sizable list of grassroots, civic and political supporters from across the 14th district, including: The Detroit News, The United Automobile Workers (UAW), AFL-CIO Michigan, AFSCME Council 25, the Michigan Education Association, The Black Slate, U.S. Senator Carl Levin, U.S. Congressman Sander Levin, U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee, and former Congressman Dale Kildee, as well as former Governors Jennifer Granholm and James Blanchard.

Hobbs was a leader in raising the minimum wage in Michigan; bringing President Obama’s healthcare reform to Michigan; tougher gun laws to keep our communities safe. And, as a husband and the father of three young daughters, he clearly takes women’s issues very personal. We’re convinced that he will fight for reproductive rights, equal pay, and to pass the Violence Against Women’s Act.

That’s why TellUsDetroit.com feels he will be the best choice to succeed Gary Peters as the 14th District’s next Congressman.

Earlier in the week, Hobbs released two new TV spots, “Safer” and “Students,” which will be hitting television sets across the district on Tuesday. They can be viewed at www.rudyhobbsforcongress.com/media.
