Detroit
Mayor
Duggan
endorses
Rudy
Hobbs in
the race
for MI’s
14th
Congressional
District
DETROIT,
MI -
Today,
Rep.
Rudy
Hobbs
earned
the
endorsement
of
Detroit
Mayor
Mike
Duggan
in the
race to
replace
U.S.
Representative
Gary
Peters
in
Michigan’s
14th
Congressional
District.
"Detroit
needs a
partner
in
Washington
who is
used to
rolling
up his
sleeves
and
getting
to work,
regardless
of who
gets the
credit,"
said
Detroit
Mayor
Duggan.
"Having
dedicated
his
early
career
to the
children
of DPS
on the
eastside
of
Detroit,
Rudy
believes
in the
potential
of our
city.
His
passion,
experience,
and
fresh
ideas
ensure
he will
be a
workhorse,
making
him an
exceptional
member
of
Congress
for our
region,
and the
best
candidate
to help
in the
task of
turning
around
our
city."
Since
taking
office
on
January
1st of
this
year,
Mayor
Duggan
has
worked
to
champion
initiatives
to
restore
and
revive
the city
of
Detroit.
He was
elected
on a
track
record
of
leading
successful
financial
and
operational
turnarounds,
and is
currently
seeking
to
establish
a
coordinated
strategy
that
will,
once and
for all,
address
ongoing
issues
of
blight,
public
transportation,
crime,
and job
creation.
With the
August
Primary
now just
days
away,
Hobbs
has
continued
to gain
exponential
momentum
in the
race for
Congress.
He has
proven
himself
to be an
adept
leader,
capable
of
bridging
sometimes
conflicting
agendas.
Hobbs
has
worked
tirelessly
to
secure
the
support
of
groups,
such as
the UAW
and the
Michigan
Regional
Chamber;
the
Black
Slate
and the
Jewish
community;
and
leaders
from
across
both
Oakland
and
Wayne
counties.
Further,
Hobbs’
campaign
has
established
itself
as the
clear
organizational
leader
in the
congressional
race.
Hobbs
has
out-raised
all of
his
opponents,
with his
total
raised
now
nearing
$600,000.
In
addition,
he has
also
built an
unmatched
network
of over
250
volunteers
who have
collectively
helped
knock
over
60,000
doors
and made
65,000
calls to
voters
in the
14th
district.
“It is a
great
honor to
have the
endorsement
of a
leader
like
Mayor
Duggan,
who gets
up to
fight
everyday
for the
city he
loves
and
believes
in,”
said
Hobbs.
“As the
next
Congressman
of
Michigan’s
14th
District,
I will
fight
just as
hard for
quality
schools,
safe
neighborhoods,
and good
paying
jobs for
Detroit
and this
entire
region.”
