Investigation
into
Detroit
Imam's
death
leaves
many questions
unanswered
DEARBORN,
Mich.

An
autopsy
report
released
by
Dearborn
Police
Department
today
reveals
that
Muslim
leader
Imam
Luqman
Ameen
Abdullah
of
Detroit
suffered
21
gunshot
wounds
during
an FBI
raid at
a
warehouse
in the
Detroit
suburb
where
agents
were
attempting
to
arrest
him.
The
report
released
Monday
by the
Wayne
County
medical
examiner's
office
indicates
that
Luqman
Ameen
Abdullah
was shot
once in
the back
and 12
times
below
the
waistline.
In an
early
morning
press
conference,
Dearborn
Police
Chief
Ron
Haddad
(huh-DAD')
said,
"In
order to
ensure
the
integrity
of the
case,
the
Dearborn
Police
Department
requested
a delay
in the
release
of the
autopsy
report
until
our
investigation
into
that
segment
of the
case was
completed.
it would
take
several
more
weeks
for his
department
to
complete
its
investigation
into the
Oct. 28
shooting.
Abdullah
was
described
by
officials
as a
leader
of a
national
radical
Sunni
group
that
wants to
create
an
Islamic
state
within
the U.S.
through
violent
means.
His
family
has
denied
allegations
that he
was
anti-government.
A son of
the late
Imam
Abdullah
stated,
"This is
not the
first
time
they
(FBI)
did
something
like
this,
look at
Malcom
X, look
at
Martin
Luther
King,
this
what
they do
..it's
nothing
new."
At a
rally
held
outside
Dearborn
Police
Headquarters
Monday
morning,
Ron
Scott,
spokesman
for the
Detroit
Coalition
Against
Police
Brutality
stated,
"There
is no
reason
that
anybody
should
be shot
21
times,
as far
as we
can see
it
amounts
to an
execution."
Chief
Haddad
stated
"We
respect
the
community’s
right to
information
regarding
this
case and
appreciate
their
understanding
about
the
delay in
the
release
of the
autopsy
report.
Balancing
the
interest
of
justice
and the
publics
“right
to know,
the
investigators
worked
diligently
to
complete
this
segment
of the
investigation
to
expedite
the
availability
of the
autopsy
report
while
other
aspects
of the
investigation
are
ongoing."
