Investigation into Detroit Imam's death leaves many questions unanswered

DEARBORN, Mich. (Tell Us Det) - An autopsy report released by Dearborn Police Department today reveals that Muslim leader Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah of Detroit suffered 21 gunshot wounds during an FBI raid at a warehouse in the Detroit suburb where agents were attempting to arrest him.

The report released Monday by the Wayne County medical examiner's office indicates that Luqman Ameen Abdullah was shot once in the back and 12 times below the waistline.

In an early morning press conference, Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad (huh-DAD') said, "In order to ensure the integrity of the case, the Dearborn Police Department requested a delay in the release of the autopsy report until our investigation into that segment of the case was completed. it would take several more weeks for his department to complete its investigation into the Oct. 28 shooting.

Abdullah was described by officials as a leader of a national radical Sunni group that wants to create an Islamic state within the U.S. through violent means. His family has denied allegations that he was anti-government. A son of the late Imam Abdullah stated, "This is not the first time they (FBI) did something like this, look at Malcom X, look at Martin Luther King, this what they do ..it's nothing new."

At a rally held outside Dearborn Police Headquarters Monday morning, Ron Scott, spokesman for the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality stated, "There is no reason that anybody should be shot 21 times, as far as we can see it amounts to an execution."

Chief Haddad stated "We respect the community’s right to information regarding this case and appreciate their understanding about the delay in the release of the autopsy report. Balancing the interest of justice and the publics “right to know, the investigators worked diligently to complete this segment of the investigation to expedite the availability of the autopsy report while other aspects of the investigation are ongoing."
