Introduction

Fourth

directory

focusing
on the
African-American
market,
enthusiastically
announces
that
Carol A.
Goss,
president
and
chief
executive
officer
for The
Skillman
Foundation,
will
write
the
introduction
for the
fourth
edition
of Who's
Who In
Black
Detroit®.
Goss
began
her
career
in
social
work in
1972
working
for
numerous
nonprofit
organizations
that
offered
services
and
support
to the
community,
including
the
Oakland
County,
Michigan
Family
and
Children's
Services,
and the
Children's
Home
Society
in
Oakland,
California.
In 1987
she
began
working
with the
W.K.
Kellogg
Foundation.
There,
Goss
supervised
a
two-and-a-half
year
project
to
improve
the
lives of
children
living
in an
impoverished
Detroit
neighborhood.
Her work
at W.K.
Kellogg
Foundation
continued
for four
more
years,
supervising
grants
for
youth
and
education.
In 1998
Goss
began
her work
at The
Skillman
Foundation
as a
program
officer
seeking
creative
ways to
offer
support
and
opportunities
to the
children
of
poverty.
Goss was
named
president
and CEO
of The
Skillman
Foundation
in 2004
where
she
brings
together
business,
government,
charity
and
community
resources
to solve
problems
and
build a
strong
future.
Goss
graduated
with a
Bachelor
of Arts
degree
in
sociology,
and
earned a
Master
of
Social
Work
degree
from the
University
of
Michigan.
She is
married
to Tom
Goss,
and has
three
daughters.
