Emergency
Manager
to speak
at
Mackinac
Policy
Conference
DETROIT,
MI - The
Detroit
Regional
Chamber
has
announced
Detroit
Emergency
Manager
Kevyn
Orr as a
speaker
for the
2014
Mackinac
Policy
Conference.
Held
Tuesday,
May 27
through
Friday,
May 30,
the
Conference
will
spur a
comprehensive
dialogue
focused
on the
three
pillars
of
entrepreneurship,
education
and
impact.
“Michigan
ultimately
goes as
Detroit
goes,
and
that’s a
reality
that
leaders
across
Michigan
need to
embrace,”
said
Plunkett
Cooney
President
and CEO
Henry B.
Cooney,
chair of
the 2014
Conference.
“Detroit’s
emergence
from
bankruptcy
is
critically
important
to
Michigan’s
future.
Kevyn
Orr’s
perspective
on how
to put
Detroit
on a
sustainable
path
must be
central
to this
statewide
discussion
about
Michigan’s
global
competitiveness.”
Taking
the
stage at
the
Conference,
Orr will
discuss
the
progress
since
his
appointment
in March
2013 and
what is
needed
to
position
the city
for
success
moving
forward.
Just
months
before
his
expected
departure
this
fall,
Orr will
give
insight
into the
short
and
long-term
vision
for
Detroit’s
sustained
growth,
as well
as the
blueprint
it
provides
for
municipalities
around
the
nation
facing
similar
challenges.
“From
the
start,
the
Detroit
bankruptcy
has
served
as a
case
study
for
confronting
daunting
challenges
with
bold and
innovative
leadership,”
said
Chamber
President
and CEO
Sandy K.
Baruah.
“Kevyn
Orr has
effectively
managed
that
process,
setting
a
national
precedent
in the
process.
Leaders
will
look to
Orr’s
work in
Detroit
for
decades
as
cities
across
the
nation
confront
their
own
mounting
challenges
of
municipal
insolvency.”
Orr is
part of
a
speaker
lineup
that
includes:
Jim
Clifton,

and CEO,
Gallup

Coming
Jobs
War;”
