- Gas
prices
statewide
have
fallen
by 9.6 -
11 cents
per
gallon
in the
past
week
ahead of
the
Thanksgiving
holiday,
AAA
Michigan
said.
The
average
price
for
self-serve
regular
unleaded
gasoline
was
about
$2.63
per
gallon,
the
Dearborn-based
auto
club
said
early
Monday.
That's
about 51
cents
more
than at
the same
point
last
year.
Michigan's
lowest
average
price
was
about
$2.52
per
gallon
in the
Lansing
and East
Lansing
areas.
The
highest
was
about
$2.71
per
gallon
in the
Ann
Arbor
area.
According
to
GasBuddy,
prices
in metro
Detroit
have
fallen
9.6
cents
per
gallon
in the
past
week,
with the
average
now at
$2.65
per
gallon.
GasBuddy
surveyed
1,734
gas
stations
in the
area.
That's
compared
to the
national
average,
which is
down 2.6
cents to
$2.54
per
gallon.
Gas is
still
significantly
higher
than it
was a
year
ago.
GasBuddy
said it
is 61.4
cents
higher
per
gallon
than the
same day
one year
ago and
8 cents
higher
than a
month
ago.
Last
year,
the
average
price at
this
time was
$2.03
per
gallon,
and it
was even
cheaper
than
that, at
$1.94
per
gallon
in 2015.
Prices
were
significantly
higher
in years
past,
with
2014
being
$2.87
per
gallon,
$3.18 in
2013 and
$3.51 in
2012.
The
decline
comes as
AAA
projects
more
than 1.6
million
people
from
Michigan
will
travel
around
the
Thanksgiving
holiday.
