DETROIT,
MI (Tell

-
Hilarious,
delightful,
energetic
and
uplifting
are some
of the
words
that fit
perfectly
when
trying
to
describe
the
Broadway
musical
“Sister
Act”,
now
playing
at the
Fisher
Theatre
as part
of the
series
“Broadway
in
Detroit”.
Last
Tuesday
evening,
the
spectators
that
filled
the
theatre,
enjoyed
to the
highest
the
performances
of a
very
well
rounded
production
that
includes
extraordinary
vocals,
outstanding
music,
eye-catching
setting
and
sparkling
customs.
“Sister
Act” has
all the
necessary
elements
to offer
a true
Broadway
musical
experience.
Featuring
original
music by
Tony and
8-time
Academy
Award
winner
Alan
Menken (Newsies,
Beauty
and the
Beast,
Little
Shop of
Horrors),
this
musical
tells
the
story of
Deloris
Van
Cartier,
a
wannabe
diva
whose
life
takes a
surprising
turn
when she
witnesses
a crime
and the
cops
hide her
in a
convent.
Under
the
suspicious
watch of
Mother
Superior,
Deloris
helps
her
fellow
sisters
find
their
voices
as she
unexpectedly
rediscovers
her own.
It is a
sparkling
tribute
to the
universal
power of
friendship.
The key
element
in this
musical
is the
songs
written
by Alan
Menken
(score)
and
Glenn
Slater
(lyrics).
Mr.
Menken
and Mr.
Slater
manage
to
deliver
contagious
Motown-like
songs
that
make the
audience
inevitably
start
dancing
their
feet.
Even
though
some
musical
numbers
start up
weak and
seem
that
they are
unnecessary
for the
play,
they all
end up
having
the
spectators
clapping
and
cheering.
One good
example
is “I
could be
that
guy”
performed
by the
fantastic
Chester
Gregory.
He
easily
steals
the show
with
that
song.
On the
story
side,
Cheri
and Bill
Steinkellner
put
their
experience
in
writing
situation
comedies
(Cheers)
to
create a
group of
charming
characters
that
grow
through
the
show.
Each of
them has
his
chance
to shine
on stage
and they
all do a
highly
enjoyable
work.
The show
combines
music
with
comedy
in a
blend
that
keeps
spectators
constantly
laughing
and
dancing
on their
seats.
The show
starts
energetic
with
“Take me
to
heaven”
and
closes
energetic
as well
with
“Spread
the Love
Around”.
The
spectators
start
laughing
even
before
the
curtain
is being
raised.
Walking
out of a
theatre
still
clapping
and
smiling
is a
proof
that the
show is
a not to
be
missed.
This is
the case
of
“Sister
Act”.

Act” is
