Festival,
taking
place on
the
shores
of Belle
Isle
Beach,
Detroit
on
Saturday,
August
9, 2014
announces
the full
Paddlerama
schedule
of
events,
featuring
paddleboard
and SUP
events
for all
ages,
kayak
events
as well
as the
Outdoor
Action
Company
OABI
Race,
live
music,
craft
beer and
local
food for
everyone
to
enjoy.
Paddlerama
– a
series
of
classes,
demonstrations,
contests
and
sprint
competitions
is open
to the
general
public
at noon
to 8pm.
Paddlerama
encourages
everyone,
no
matter
the
skill
level to
learn
from
some of
the top
athletes
in the
sport,
including
three-time
Elite
Women’s
WPA
Midwest
SUP
Points
champion,
Mary
Ridtke
and 2013
Maui to
Molokai
SUP Race
champion,
Ron St.
John.
Free
SUPs and
kayaks
will be
available
for
Paddlerama
participants,
courtesy
of Green
Veil
Outdoor,
Great
Lakes
Surf and
Detroit
River
Sports.

challenging

poses
will be
demonstrated
in this
on water
class
giving
you a
chance
to try
it out
for
yourself.

on-land
workouts

stand up
paddling
training
and

Once an
underground
event
that
began in
2011 as
a
challenge
among
the SUP
community
to test
who had
the
biggest
gains
over the
summer
paddle
season,
The
Outdoor
Action
Company
OABI
Race is
the
ultimate
test of
stamina
as
paddleboards,
kayaks,
and crew
sculls
and
shells
race
around
the
7-mile
Detroit
treasure,
Belle
Isle. No
official
points,
no
technology,
just
ready,
set, go!
The race
starts
and
finishes
at Belle
Isle
Beach
with the
first
one to
circumnavigate
the isle
and grab
the
paddle/trophy
keeps it
for the
year.
OABI
attendees
will
also
enjoy an
array of
craft
beer and
local
foods,
as well
as live
music by
The
Macpodz,
Slow
Jam’s
resident
DJ and
Movement
Electronic
Music
Festival
veteran,
Erno the
Inferno,
as well
as the
acoustic
tunes of
Brian
Sheehan.

is $15

12 years
old and
under
are free
and must
be
accompanied
by an
adult.
The OABI
race is
for
moderate
to
experienced
paddlers,
while
Paddlerama
is open
to all
paddler
experience
levels.
