Conference

– In its
4th
year,
the
annual
Great
Lakes
Bioneers
Conference
returns
to
Detroit.
It will
take
place at
Marygrove
College
from
Oct.
17th –
19th.
The
Great
Lakes
Bioneers
Conference
is an
environmental
conference
dedicated
to
solving
eco-issues
that
affect
city
dwellers.
It
builds
off of
the
internationally
acclaimed
Bioneers
Conference
held in
California,
now in
its 19th
year,
and its
“Beaming
Bioneers,”
a
companion
program
of
community-based
satellite
conferences
across
the US.
The
Great
Lakes
Bioneers
Conference
will
address
practical
approaches
of key
environmental
issues
such as:
recycling,
energy
preservation,
urban
farming
and much
more.
Participants
will
have the
opportunity
to learn
from an
impressive
variety
of local
environmental
leaders
in areas
of
organic
farming,
environmental
activism,
recycling,
and
energy
preservation.
Going
green
will
seem
much
easier
after
attending
one of
our
workshops!
Workshops
will
address
a wide
assortment
of
topics
such as:
“You
Can”
Grow
Organic
Food
Year-Round
in
Michigan,
Surviving
an
Energy
Audit of
Your
Home,
Renewable
Options
for
Heating
and
Cooling
Your
Home,
Michigan’s
Renewable
Energy
Future:
How You
Can
Influence
Policy.
The
Great
Lakes
Bioneers
conference
is
happening
in three
locations
this
year: in
Traverse
City
(for the
7th
year),
Detroit
(for the
4th
year)
and
Cleveland
(for the
2nd
year).
Since
Detroit
and the
surrounding
region
need
real
solutions
for its
environmental
challenges;
the
Great
Lakes
Bioneers
Detroit
Conference
will
provide
an
up-close
and
personal
look
towards
reversing
some of
the
environmental
problems
affecting
this
region.
It is an
excellent
platform
to share
some of
the
developments
that are
already
in place
and some
of our
exciting
future
goals.
This is
an
interactive
conference
where
five bus
tours
will
take
participants
to visit
the
Detroit
Public
School
Catherine
Ferguson
High
School
Tour,
where
they are
actively
raising
goats
and
chickens;
Environmental
Justice
Tour, a
tour
through
local
neighborhoods
that are
negatively
impacted
by
environmental
disregard;
An Urban
Garden
Tour, a
tour
highlighting
the
benefits
of
community
gardens
and
urban
agriculture;
River
Walk
Tour, a
tour
addressing
the
River
Walk
transformation
and its
future
development;
Mudmats
from
Tires –
Recycling
Motown
Style
Tour, a
tour
illustrating
the
transformation
of used
tires
into
attractive
mudmats.
Tours
are
included
in the
registration
fee, but
RSVP is
required.
