their
commitment
to
education
in
Southeast
Michigan,
Ford
Motor
Company
Fund and
Community
Services
hosted
their
second
annual
"Blue
Oval
Scholar"
celebration
this
past
weekend.
Scholarships
totaling
$100,000
were
awarded
to 145
Southeast
Michigan
high
school
seniors.
The
scholarships,
provided
with
operational
support
from
Communities
in
Schools,
were
given
June 5,
2010
from 11
a.m.-1
p.m.
during a
community
celebration
event at
the
Charles
H.
Wright
Museum
of
African
American
History
in
Detroit.
The
scholarship
recipients
were
from
Detroit
Central,
Detroit
Denby,
Highland
Park
High
School,
Inkster
High
School,
Mt.
Clemens
High
School,
Detroit
Northwestern,
Detroit
Pershing,
Pontiac
High
School,
River
Rouge
High
School,
and
Detroit
Southeastern.

Through
its
“Blue
Oval
Scholarship"
initiative,
Ford
also
partnered
with the
Jalen
Rose
Charitable
Fund and
awarded
one
$10,000
scholarship
to a
deserving
student
from
Southeast
Michigan.
The
winning
student,
Arnetia
Vaughn-Scott
is a
graduating
senior
from the
Detroit
School
of the
Arts. In
addition,
Ford
provided
a
targeted
grant to
a local
high
school
which
sumbitted
the
winning
proposal
for an
initiative
that
will
tackle
high
drop-out
rates
among
ninth
and
tenth
graders.
The
winning
school
for the
targeted
grant
will be
announced
later
this
month.
It will
receive
$7,500
to
implement
the
program
as well
as a
Back to
School
Empowerment
Seminar
hosted
by Jalen
Rose in
September
2010 to
kick-off
implementation
of their
mentoring
program.
Ford's
latest
commitment
to
supporting
education
in
Southeast
Michigan
builds
on a
legacy
of
investment
in
educational
initiatives.
These
include
its
national
award-winning
high
school
curriculum,
Ford
Partnership
for
Advanced
Studies
as well
support
of local
education
institutions.
Recently,
in 2009
a second
Henry
Ford
Academy
in
Southeast
Michigan
opened
its
doors.
The
Henry
Ford
Academy:
School
for
Creative
Studies,
is a
partnership
with the
College
for
Creative
Studies
(CCS)
and is
located
in the
A.
Alfred
Taubman
Center
for
Design
Education,
CCS's
new
campus
in the
New
Center
area.
