for
Accounting
Aid
Society’s
‘Tax
Assistance
Program’
Low-income
tax
preparation
service
helps
those
who need
to
obtain
crucial
tax
credits
DETROIT
-
Thousands
of
southeastern
Michigan’s
neediest
working
families
and
retirees
are
unable
to
afford
professional
tax
assistance,
and, as
a
result,
may miss
out on
receiving
many tax
credits.
MACPA
and its
members,
in
alliance
with AAS,
are
committed
to
helping
those in
need
understand
their
tax
rights
and
responsibilities.
Members
of the
Michigan
Association
of
Certified
Public
Accountants
(MACPA)
will
once
again
volunteer
their
tax
preparation
expertise
to
low-income
families
in
Detroit
as part
of this
year’s
Accounting
Aid
Society
(AAS)
“Tax
Assistance
Program”.
The
MACPA
will
participate
in the
AAS
Adopt-A-Site
program
by
preparing
taxes at
Focus:
HOPE for
three
Saturdays
during
tax
season.
Eligibility
for the
free
service
is an
annual
income
of
$20,000
or less
for an
individual
or less
than
$40,000
for a
family.
Volunteers
assist
clients
with
local,
state
and
federal
tax
filings.
Last
year,
MACPA
members
brought
nearly
$165,000
back to
the
Detroit
community
in
refunds
during
the
three-day
program.
MACPA is
a
diversified,
professional,
member-driven
organization
serving
more
than
17,000
CPAs and
affiliated
professionals
throughout
Michigan.
In
addition
to
partnering
with AAS
for the
Tax
Assistance
Program,
MACPA
has also
teamed
with the
Breast
and
Cervical
Cancer
Control
Program
(BCCCP).
They
will be
there to
talk to
female
attendees
and to
offer
appointments
for
breast
and
cervical
cancer
screening.

preparation
is
Saturday,
January
30,
February
6 and
February
13,
2010.
