Mariners
Inn (MI)
shelter
and
treatment
center
in
downtown
Detroit
is
hosting
the 20th
Anniversary
of the
River
Rhythm
dinner
and
silent
auction
on
Friday,
October
17,
2008.
The
annual
event
will be
held at
the
Roostertail,
100
Marquette
Drive,
Detroit
48214.
River
Rythm is
the
center’s
premier
fundraising
effort.
“For 19
years
Detroiters
have
given
graciously
from
their
heart to
support
men in
recovery,”
said Jim
Hartz,
MI Chief
Executive
Officer.
“We are
in the
business
of
giving
men hope
so that
they can
return
to their
communities
clean,
sober
and able
to
support
their
families.
This
annual
event
goes a
long way
toward
making
that
happen.
We
invite
everyone
to join
us in
that
mission
by
supporting
this
annual
gala.”
Mariners
Inn is a
non-profit,
24-hour,
residential
substance
abuse
facility
for
homeless
men. The
agency
provides
free
shelter
and
substance
abuse
recovery
services
to men
from
across
the
state.
Men show
up sober
at the
time of
registration
and are
drug
tested
regularly.
Men
participate
in
individual/group
therapy,
daily
work
details
and
vocational
counseling.
At
Mariners
Inn, men
get the
help
they
need to
return
to
society.
This
year’s
event
will be
emceed
by WXYZ
Channel
7
personality
Chuck
Stokes.
Several
outstanding
individuals
will
receive
awards
for
their
tireless
efforts
to
support
homeless
men in
recovery.
Ed
Copley
has been
selected
to
receive
the
Community
Beacon
award.
Bernie
Parker
has been
selected
to
receive
the
Anchor
of the
Year
award.
There
will
also be
a
surprise
award to
two of
the
region’s
leading
businesspeople
for
their
longstanding
contributions
to
Mariners
Inn.
Tickets

semi-formal
event
