grants
up to
$300K
for
eligible
greater
Detroit
nonprofits
DETROIT,
MI -
United
Way for
Southeastern
Michigan
has
announced
Social
Innovation
Fund (SIF)
grant
opportunities
from
$100,000
to
$300,000
for
eligible
nonprofits
in
Macomb,
Oakland
and
Wayne
Counties.
Request
For
Qualifications
(RFQs)
are now
being
accepted.
The
grants
are made
available
following
United
Way’s
2016
four-year
$6,000,000
grant
from the
Social
Innovation
Fund, a
program
of the
Corporation
for
National
and
Community
Service
(CNCS).
Nonprofits
with a
focus on
or
interest
in
serving
parents
and
caregivers
of
children
ages 5
and
younger
are
eligible
to apply
to
become a
United
Way for
Southeastern
Michigan
SIF
sub-grantee.
As a SIF
sub-grantee,
Greater
Detroit
nonprofits
will
help
further
the
impact
of the
nonprofit’s
Bib to
Backpack
initiative
throughout
Wayne,
Oakland
and
Macomb
counties.
United
Way will
competitively
select
four to
six
sub-recipients
to
implement
the
initiative,
which
supports
skill-building
for
parents
and
caregivers
of young
children;
empowers
adults
to
expand
their
social
and
resource
networks
and
increase
their
self-sufficiency
and use
of
resources;
and
prepares
children
for
school
readiness
and
lifelong
success.
The SIF
is a
powerful
approach
to
transforming
lives
and
communities,
and
positions
the
federal
government
to be a
catalyst
for
impact –
mobilizing
private
resources
to find
and grow
community
solutions
with
evidence
of
results.
As part
of the
SIF,
United
Way for
Southeastern
Michigan,
as well
its
sub-grantees,
must
match
the
federal
funds
dollar-for-dollar,
which
allows
for even
greater
community
impact.
Since
2011,
the
Social
Innovation
Fund and
United
Way for
Southeastern
Michigan
have
awarded
$7,491,783
to
eleven
local
organizations.
The
funds
were
used to
evaluate
and
expand
innovative
approaches
to
childhood
development,
and
ensure
children
ages 5
and
younger
are
developmentally
on-track
and
ready to
learn.
The SIF
and CNCS’
Share
Our
Strength
also
awarded
$375,000
to
United
Way in
2014 to
accelerate
the
growth
of its
No Kid
Hungry
campaign
in
Detroit.
