(STEP)
is
pleased
to
announce
its
partnership
with
College
for
Creative
Studies
(CCS)
for a
collaborative
ideation
scholarship
competition
that
allows
sophomore
and
junior
students
to
further
their
development
in
design.
STEP
Thrift
Store
and
Donation
Center
(formerly
Tried
and True
Thrift
Store
and
Donation
Center)
owned
and
operated
by STEP;
is
scheduled
to open
its
third
Thrift
Store
this
upcoming
June in
Dearborn
Heights.
On
Tuesday,
April
11,
2016,
nine CCS
students
were
selected
to
present
their
ideas
and
designs
to a
panel of
STEP
judges
at the
Taubman
Center
in
Detroit
to
compete
for a
$500
scholarship
and a
spring/summer
internship.
Junior
Ian
Evans
succeeded
his
peers
and was
chosen
as the
scholarship
award
recipient.
Due to
the many
unique
and
innovative
presentations,
STEP
decided
to award
an
additional
$250
scholarship
to the
runner
up team-
Nadine
Dupont
and
Laural
Soloway.
The
winning
designs
will be
used for
the
interior
layout
of the
new STEP
store
opening
in June.
“Working
with
CCS,
their
team,
and
their
students
exceeded
our
expectations!
We are
beyond
impressed
with the
welcoming
atmosphere
CCS
provided,
as well
as the
students’
dedication
towards
this
project.
We would
like to
thank
all of
the
participating
students
for
their
involvement
and we
greatly
enjoyed
their
talents
and
ideas,”
said
Sinziana
Luchian,
STEP
Marketing
&
Communications
Manager.
“This is
a very
exciting
time for
STEP!
With the
new
store,
the goal
is not
only to
bring in
potential
customers,
but also
to raise
awareness
about
the many
programs
STEP
provides
to
individuals
with
barriers.
The
collaboration
with CCS
allows
us to
continue
our
brand
promise
while
creating
awareness
for our
programs
– which
benefit
the
people
we serve
and our
community.”
With the
scheduled
opening
of
STEP’s
third
Thrift
Store
and
Donation
Center
and the
recent
rebranding-
STEP is
looking
forward
to
having a
blank
canvas
to work
with and
to
further
the
value of
the
education
system
through
design.
The
students
provided
ideation
of the
following
criteria:
creativity,
innovation,
thoughtful
placement
and
purposefulness.
The
students
were
responsible
for
providing
the
concepts
and the
renderings
of
interiors
that
would be
exciting
not only
from a
retail
perspective
but for
the
students’
engagement;
and the
exterior
that can
draw in
prospective
buyers,
donors
and
consumers.
“When
customers
make
donations
and or
shop at
any of
our
Thrift
Store
locations,
they’re
helping
our
cause.
We hire
the
individuals
we
serve;
allowing
them to
earn an
income,
integrate
in
community
life and
learn
useful
real-world
skills.”
