“I am so
excited
about my
first
walkathon
with New
Center.
The
energy
and
excitement
is very
high.
Each
year
participation
increases
and I
expect
this
year to
be the
most
successful
yet,"
said Joy
Calloway,
President
and CEO.
"We are
extremely
thrilled
to host
our
Walk/Run
at the
beautiful
Detroit
RiverWalk
and
confident
that we
will
reach
our
goals
and make
a
difference
in the
lives of
children
living
with
mental
illness,”
said
board
chairman
N.
Charles
Anderson.
The New
Center
Community
Services
2015
Walkathon
will
raise
funds to
purchase
a Mobile
Crisis
Unit (MCU).
The MCU
will
allow
New
Center
to serve
as an
emergency
mental
health
provider
to our
community’s
young
adults
(aged
18-24)
who are
struggling
with
depression,
symptoms
of
trauma,
and
mental
illness.
Young
adults
are 60%
more
likely
to have
depression
than
people
aged 50
or
older.
New
Center’s
MCU will
help
these
vulnerable
young
people
reduce
the risk
of
self-destructive
behaviors,
manage
their
mental
illness
and
develop
into
productive
community
citizens.
With the
help of
supporters,
New
Center
Community
Services
will
continue
to
provide
the
Project
Resilience
program
each
summer
for
children
in
Detroit
and
Wayne
County
communities.
Teaming
with
Radio
One,
105.9
KISS FM
will be
onsite
with
popular
radio
host
CoCo of
the
Mason &
CoCo
Morning
Show to
kick off
the
Walk/Run.
“We are
pleased
to have
Behavioral
Health
Professionals,
Inc.,
Hershey
Insurance
and work
as our
Gold
sponsors
and many
other
sponsors
supporting
the
event.
Together
these
sponsors
demonstrate
a
commitment
to
improving
the
quality
of life
for the
mentally
ill and
the
community
in which
they
live,
work and
play,"
said Ms.
