Microsoft
serves
as
technology
partner
for free
Youth
Tech
Camp
DETROIT,
MI -
Michigan
Technical
Academy
(MTA)
will
host its
second
Annual
POWERED
TO DREAM
Youth
Tech and
Innovation
Camp
Monday,
July 28
through
Saturday,
August
2, 2014
from 8
a.m. to
2 p.m.
at 19940
Mansfield
St. in
Detroit.
The free
camp,
open to
youth
ages
9-16,
will
feature
workshops
on
robotics,
rocketry,
and web
development.
Camp
technology
partner,
Microsoft,
will
host an
innovation
area
featuring
its
products
including:
Xbox
360,
surface
tablets,
phones
and
more. In
addition,
Microsoft
trainers
will
conduct
a
workshop
for
parents
showing
them how
to use
Microsoft
Office
2013
applications.
“We are
excited
about
Microsoft’s
continued
support
of the
tech
camp,”
says
Jeremy
Gilliam,
MTA
Superintendent.
"Youth
must be
exposed
to
programs
that
emphasize
science,
technology,
engineering
and
mathematics
as a way
to
catapult
them
into our
emerging
global
society.
Including
such
highlights
as the
“Power
Surge
Hour,”
the
week-long
camp
presents
guest
speakers
who will
discuss
their
passion
for
technology:
Hajj
Fleming,
founder
of
Student
Ventures
and
Brand U
Camp,
along
with
workshop
facilitators
Amber
Conville,
software
developer
for
Detroit
Labs,
Seun
Phillips,
executive
director
of
STEMNETICS,
and
Rashad
Thomas
of MTA.
Campers
will
receive
t-shirts,
prizes,
and
giveaways,
with
breakfast
and
lunch
provided
daily.
"POWERED
TO DREAM
" is
part of
MTA’s
“Connecting
with the
Community”
series,
a summer
resource
initiative
for
parents
and
students.
