It was a
solemn
Mayor
Bing who
spoke to
the
media
following
a visit
at Sinai
Grace
Hospital
with
victims
of
Tuesday’s
shooting
near
Cody
High
School
in
Detroit.
“I am
obviously
upset
and
outraged
that
something
like
this
could
happen
in our
city”
adding
that “it
hurts”
when
looking
at the
young
shooting
victims
who the
mayor
said
were
resting
and will
recover.
But Bing
was
clear
that the
city
will not
tolerate
such
incidents
and that
law
enforcement
can not
solve
the
problem
alone.
Speaking
to the
community,
Bing
said the
shooting
was an
isolated
incident
but that
the
victims,
innocent
children,
are the
future
of city
whose
lives we
must
protect.
Bing
appealed
to the
community
not to
accept
violence
as okay
saying
“too
often
because
it does
not
affect
us
personally,
or our
families
or the
neighbor
s we
live in,
we kind
of look
we look
at it
and
brush it
aside.”
We have
stop
thinking
like
this
said
Bing.
Joining
the
Mayor
was Saul
Green,
the
Group
Director
of
Public
Safety.
Green
said the
Mayor
already
had
plans in
place to
meet
today
with the
U.S.
Attorneys’
office
to
discuss
how law
enforcement
can work
more
strategically
to
attack
and have
an
impact
on
violent
crime in
our
neighborhoods.
Bing
says the
city
will
prosecute
to the
fullest
degree
possible
those
involved
in
Tuesday’s
shooting,
but
would
not
speculate
on the
cause of
the
violence
saying
police
are
still
gathering
information
of what
precipitated
the
shooting,
but
added
“we have
to
eradicate
lawless
from our
community.”
