Statue depicting Jesus as homeless debuts at Detroit church

DETROIT - A new statue depicting Jesus as a homeless man has been unveiled at a downtown Detroit church.

The Detroit Free Press reports Ontario, Canada-born artist Timothy Schmalz's sculpture titled "Whatsoever You Do" will be permanently displayed in front of Historic Trinity Lutheran Church.

The bronze sculpture depicts Jesus as a man in robe with his head bowed and his right arm stretched out. A crowd of about 60 people gathered on Sunday in front of the church for a dedication ceremony and to hear about the sculpture's history.

Last June, another sculpture by Schmalz titled "Homeless Jesus" was unveiled outside downtown's Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Catholic Church. Other "Homeless Jesus" sculptures have been put on display in other cities, including Chicago, Washington and Toronto.
